Team Liquid’s CLEM takes first place at the StarCraft II Esports World Cup

It’s a victorious day for Team Liquid as the member of the popular esports organization, CLEM, has taken first place in StarCraft II at the Esports World Cup. Their performance in the finals surpassed several other teams such as BASILISK, Weibo Gaming and others.

Not only did a member of Team Liquid take first place, another member of the popular e-sports team secured fifth place at the end of the tournament series.

Competition for StarCraft II began on Wednesday, August 13, 2024. The first few days were filled with group stage matches until the first knockout round of the tournament took place on Saturday.

Many players had to use the group stage matches to find out what style of play suited them best in the hope that it would improve their chances of reaching the final.

18 players competed against each other throughout the week, but only one was able to bring home the win.

Clement “Clem“Desplanches, a French StarCraft II player, has achieved several first places throughout his career. In May 2024, the player took first place at the Spring Masters and has achieved several more first and second places since starting his competitive career in 2020.

CLEM defeats Serral in the final

While the week featured some of the best StarCraft II action gamers have ever seen, no one expected CLEM to triumph in the finals with a sweeping victory over Serral. The competitor won the tournament with a score of 5-0, proving why he is simply the best in the game.

CLEM went home from the Esports World Cup with $400,000 in prize money, while Serral took second place and earned $150,000.

The StarCraft II Esports World Cup event was a significant moment in StarCraft history, proving that the game is still at the forefront in terms of competition and participation.
