Her boyfriend has removed all the doors in their house, saying it would help them build a deeper connection, but the lack of privacy just makes her uncomfortable

You know how in certain coming-of-age movies or TV shows, a parent removes the bedroom door of their unruly teenager as punishment? Have you ever heard of the partner of such a child doing this?

A woman is stressed because her boyfriend has decided to remove every single door in their house in order to create a closer bond between the two.

She is 28 and her boyfriend is 30. They have been living together for the past year and most of the time things were going well, but recently he made a decision about her house on his own, which bothers her a lot.

“My boyfriend started talking about how he thought the doors in the house were ‘unnatural’ and that they ‘created barriers between us.’ I thought it was just a passing thought, so I didn’t take it seriously,” she explained.

“However, when I came home from work last week, I discovered that he had removed all the doors in the house, including the bedroom, bathroom and even closet doors.”

She was shocked to see that all her doors were gone, but her boyfriend was thrilled and told her that they had a closer bond without the doors and that privacy was just a “social construct” that they could eliminate from their household.

On the other hand, she values her privacy and time alone very much. She enjoys spending time with her partner, but like most people, she believes she needs a few moments alone every day.

In addition, she needs protection and solitude to do certain things, like getting dressed for the day and going to the bathroom. When she tried to explain all this to her boyfriend, he accused her of being narrow-minded and said that social norms “dictate” her behavior.

“I’ve tried to get used to it, but honestly, it’s really uncomfortable,” she admitted.
