Delta Airlines has begun rolling out fast, free Wi-Fi from T-Mobile on select long-haul international flights – a major milestone in the airline’s journey to provide reliable, streaming-quality connectivity across its entire global fleet at no cost.

Free Wi-Fi is expected to be available on most transatlantic flights by the end of the summer.

Delta’s industry-leading Wi-Fi expansion is gaining momentum internationally. Starting this summer, passengers on select Viasat-equipped international long-haul flights will be able to enjoy fast, free Wi-Fi from T-Mobile – bringing the airline one step closer to its goal of offering free Wi-Fi across its entire global fleet.

Today, free streaming-quality connectivity is available on nearly 700 aircraft — more than 90% of Delta’s main domestic fleet — and the airline expects the vast majority of customers to have access to the product by year’s end.

“By continuing to expand fast, free Wi-Fi and the associated onboard experiences, we can serve customers on domestic and international journeys in new, spontaneous ways,” says Ranjan Goswami, SVP – Customer Experience Design.

“The extent to which we are offering free Wi-Fi to our customers is unprecedented in the airline industry and is a testament to the incredible efforts of Delta teams across the company who have expertly managed an extremely complex rollout.”

To ensure Delta delivers the premium service customers expect, the airline is rolling out fast, free Wi-Fi on Viasat-equipped widebody aircraft on every route. Additional routes will be rolled out gradually as high-quality, reliable service becomes available. This strategy is consistent with the approach it will take to install on domestic routes in 2022.

As free Wi-Fi is being rolled out internationally, the international Wi-Fi portal will initially not require a SkyMiles login. Later this year, all Viasat Wi-Fi-equipped aircraft will officially transition to the personalized Delta Sync Wi-Fi experience, unlocked by customers’ SkyMiles membership for exclusive in-flight experiences and offers.

Last month, fast, free Wi-Fi was introduced on most flights to/from France (CDG and NCE) from/to all US train stations.
