Two Smyrna residents die in car accident

MIDDLETOWN – Two Smyrna residents were killed in a car crash early Sunday, Delaware State Police said.

Authorities said that at approximately 12:30 a.m., a blue 2022 Honda Civic was traveling in the southbound left lane of Dupont Parkway, approaching the intersection with Harris Road. At the same time, a black 2015 Jeep Wrangler was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Dupont Parkway, crossing into the path of the Honda. As a result, the front of the Jeep struck the front of the Honda in the southbound left lane of Dupont Parkway, north of Harris Road, authorities said.

The driver of the Honda, a 62-year-old man, and the Honda’s passenger, a 51-year-old woman, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names are not being released until their family and relatives have been notified.

The driver of the Jeep, a 28-year-old woman from Massey, Maryland, was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The road was closed for about four hours while the accident scene was being investigated and cleared.
