Woman speaks out after arrest in connection with murder of six-year-old in Woodstock

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – A woman who knew a six-year-old girl who died in the Woodstock neighborhood earlier this year spoke to News4JAX after learning that a man has been charged with her murder.

Jahrasha Golson, 6, was found dead on a bed in a home on Allison Street in February.

On Thursday, police announced that her legal guardian, 60-year-old Tyrone Golson, was charged with murder.

“It was senseless that she died like that,” said a woman who wished to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the case.

The woman said she had known Jahrasha for three years because she had played with her children and several other people in the neighborhood.

“She was happy and playing like a normal child, but as soon as she saw Tyrone, her whole expression changed and none of us could ever figure out why,” she said.

A coroner said Jahrasha died from multiple blunt force trauma and poisoning from a drug found in over-the-counter allergy medications.

“The little girl didn’t deserve this. She really didn’t,” the woman said. “I was very upset and shocked.”

According to this arrest report, officers found Jahrasha unconscious in a bed.

Sheriff TK Waters said investigating these cases, especially when a child is the victim, presents special challenges.

“We hate to see this kind of thing. The next thing we need to do is document the case as best we can and make sure we document the information as thoroughly as possible so we can bring the person responsible to justice,” Waters said. “You have to stay focused to do your job. If you get too emotional, you’re more likely to make a mistake or do something that could mess up the case.”

Golson’s arrest report also states that the Department of Children and Families attempted to conduct a wellness check on Jahrasha in January after receiving an anonymous call that he might be abusing her.

The report states that Golson did not allow DCF to visually examine Jahrasha for physical, mental or emotional injuries.

DCF also said an investigation into the household was underway before Jahrasha’s death.

“I hope this opens DCF’s eyes and doesn’t allow a parent to say ‘you can’t see my child.’ They had other options. They could have gotten a court order. They could have called a police officer to the door. If they had done that, the little girl would still be alive,” the woman said.

Golson was arrested a few days after Jahrasha’s death in connection with another case and has been in prison ever since.

In the other case, he is accused of illicit sexual intercourse with a minor, online solicitation and possession of child pornography.
