Install blinds

Mrs Foster’s first tip for conservatories was to install blinds to better control the amount of heat entering or leaving the room.

She says: “By using blinds you can significantly reduce the amount of sunlight entering the room and prevent overheating.”

“Be extra cautious by making sure your blinds are closed during the hottest times of the day.”

“Not only are they a stylish addition to your conservatory, but they can also act as an insulator in winter and prevent the temperature in the room from dropping too much.”

Invest in the insulation of your conservatory

Next, the real estate expert advises that investing in proper insulation is one of the most effective ways to control the heat in your conservatory in the long term.

Ellie noted: “Homeowners have achieved impressive results by replacing their roofs with specially designed insulation solutions.”

“The technology keeps your conservatory warm by reducing heat loss through the roof by up to 90 percent and keeps your conservatory cool by reflecting 95 percent of direct sunlight, so you can enjoy a comfortable temperature all year round.”

Apply cooling foil to window

Cooling film is an adhesive layer applied to glass that reflects about 80 percent of the sun’s rays away from the conservatory.

This could be a useful addition to your home, said the real estate agent, commenting: “The film reflects UV light and heat, providing the added benefit of protecting your skin and furnishings from sun damage.”

“The film itself is not expensive, but you should invest in a professional to install it properly.”

Stay cool with color

Ellie warns: The choices you make when designing the interior of your conservatory could go a long way in keeping it cool.

She explained: “Light colors and soft fabrics do not absorb as much heat in summer. Avoid leather furniture and dark furnishings.”

“Decorating with plants like peace lilies and rubber figs can also help regulate the humidity in your space.”

Increase ventilation

As a final tip, Ellie recommends a short-term solution: ensure your room is adequately ventilated.

The estate agent said: “As obvious as it may sound, opening the windows and doors will help improve air circulation in the conservatory and keep it cool.”

“You might also consider purchasing a traditional conservatory fan or vents.”
