Welcome to the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup 2024 Day 3 live blog. Things are heating up in Colombia as the opening round nears its midpoint. At 10:30 a.m., Italy will play Guam in Barranquilla while South Africa will face Venezuela. At 3:00 p.m., Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic will face off in a thrilling match at the Edgar Renteria Stadium while Nicaragua and the Netherlands will clash in Cartagena. At 7:00 p.m., Japan will face hosts Colombia in Group A while Mexico and Chinese Taipei will close out the Group B schedule in Cartagena. Group A opens today with an unprecedented match of the U-15 Baseball World Championship. Italy and Guam face off at 10:30 a.m. at the Edgar Renteria Stadium, hoping for their first win of the tournament to stay in the race for a spot in the Super Round.

In Cartagena de Indias, South Africa will face Venezuela at 10:30 a.m. These two teams faced each other in the last edition of this tournament on August 29, 2022 in Hermosillo. Venezuela claimed an 11-1 victory in five innings against the African representative. Both teams have lost their first two games and will look to get the first win.

Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic will face off in Barranquilla in another edition of this legendary baseball rivalry. However, this will be their first game in the U-15 Baseball World Cup. The last time they played was this year in the final of the Americas Qualifier, which Puerto Rico won 5-4 to secure the continental title. Puerto Rico is undefeated in the tournament, while the Dominican Republic has a 1-1 record. First pitch at 3 p.m.

In their 16th match, the Netherlands will face Nicaragua, who have never appeared in the first five editions of the U-15 World Cup. The Netherlands will be looking to maintain their momentum after their spectacular win against Mexico yesterday, while Nicaragua will be looking to extend their winning streak at the event.

Colombia will return to the field at 7pm for their third match of the opening round, taking on superpower Japan. They last competed in this age group two years ago and the Asian side won 7-4. Japan leads the table in Group A with a 2-0 record, while Colombia suffered a tough 1-1 overtime loss to Puerto Rico.

In Group B, Chinese Taipei and Mexico will meet in Cartagena in the 18th match of the tournament. The last time these two teams played at this level, Chinese Taipei won 2-1 in a rain-shortened match in Hermosillo. Chinese Taipei has the group under control with two wins, while Mexico is tied 1-1 after a close game against the Netherlands last night.
