Kansas City Current wins the Women’s Cup, Debinha shines

Kansas City Current finished the International Summer of Soccer in style, with confidence high and fans on their side, claiming the Women’s Cup. It was a well-deserved victory, the result of a solid performance and the brilliance of Debinha, the Brazilian star who made the difference as early as the 12th minute. After a millimetre pass from Temwa Chawinga, Debinha was ruthless and put the ball in the net, securing the title for Current.

The match started in an exciting manner and both teams showed they were ready to take home the trophy. Atlético de Madrid, always dangerous, almost scored the first goal in the ninth minute, but Synne Jensen missed a great chance in the box. On the other hand, Kansas City were unforgiving. The move that led to Debinha’s goal was a perfect example of teamwork and precision. Chawinga found the Brazilian in the right box and Debinha finished with the composure of a veteran with her left foot, leaving goalkeeper Lola Gallardo with no chance.

After the goal, Current kept up the pressure, but Atlético showed why they are one of the giants of European women’s football, creating some good chances, especially in the second half. Goalkeeper AD Franch, who had been impeccable throughout the tournament, made some crucial saves to tie the scores, including stopping a spectacular attack by Giovanna Queiroz in the 72nd minute that almost led to an equaliser.

The tension grew with every minute. Atletico went all out and tried to equalize by any means possible. But Kansas City’s defense under Franch stood firm as a wall and resisted the Spanish pressure until the final whistle. It was one of those games in which emotions took over and every save, every cut, every pass was crucial for the win.

Ultimately, Debinha’s goal was not only a hat trick, but also a sign that Kansas City Current is ready to reach even greater heights. “I hope this is just the beginning,” said coach Vlatko Andonovski after the game. And he’s right. With a talented roster and an ever-growing fan base, the sky’s the limit for Current. Now, with the trophy in hand and confidence high, the team is turning its focus to the NWSL, where new challenges already await. The team is in second place in the league, just three points behind Orlando Pride.
