BBC Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden says she’s ‘super excited’ and gives fans an update

Amy Dowden has told fans she is “super excited” to be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing and shared an update on her flat move. The dancer returns to the BBC One show following her cancer treatment.

The 33-year-old was forced to leave last year’s series after being diagnosed with breast cancer in May last year. She discovered a lump in her breast a day before she was due to leave for her honeymoon in the Maldives with her husband Ben Jones in April 2023.

Since being diagnosed with stage three breast cancer, she has undergone a mastectomy but also battled sepsis during her treatment. Amy was told earlier this year there were no signs of the disease and last month it was announced she would return to the professional squad on Strictly Come Dancing this year.

To prepare for the show, the Welsh professional dancer moved into an apartment in London. On Saturday, she shared a video on her Instagram stories in which she told her fans how it went – and how she feels about her return to Strictly.

She said it felt “very surreal” but added she was “super grateful” to be back. Amy said: “So I moved into my flat late last night ready for Strictly, it felt really surreal to finally be here.

“It’s a big reflection on everything, but super exciting. I have a lot to unpack as I arrived late last night and then realised I didn’t pack any pillows.”

Ahead of Strictly rehearsals, Amy also hosted an event with outlet Ten Discussions in London and breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel! She added: “I’m working today and tomorrow before I start Strictly on Monday. I’m just super happy, super grateful and super excited.”
