5 players who may not last the entire 2024-25 season with the 76ers

Not to sound like a broken record, the Philadelphia 76ers had one hell of an offseason. Armed with a ton of salary cap space before the summer, the franchise used every financial ammunition it had and then some. As things currently stand, there is no other team that deserves a higher valuation in that regard.

However, betting on the 76ers and going with their current roster is a risk. Since the team has the makeup of a true title contender, Daryl Morey and the entire Philadelphia leadership will not settle for less and will take every opportunity to improve the roster. However, this could come at the expense of these five players who may not finish the season with the team.

The 76ers front office may have had an A+ offseason, but there’s still an untold motive from their summer escapades. Signing KJ Martin to a rather questionable two-year, $16 million deal was just the start of what would be a fanatical midseason hunt for improvement.

Philadelphia has reportedly been on the hunt for another high-profile rotation player since re-signing Martin, as they look to trade him and his contract to enter the market for players with a salary in the $8-12 million range. They could simply keep the young forward for the rest of the season, but with additional picks, they should be well-positioned for a trade.

Nothing against Martin, who is still considered the prototype of Derrick Jones Jr., but unless he completely revamps his game and forcibly introduces anything resembling perimeter play, it will be difficult to integrate him into the 76ers. Once his transfer restriction is lifted, his days in Philly are numbered.
