According to ANI, five people were arrested on Sunday based on the statement of a girl who was rescued after an alleged gang rape on August 12.

The incident reportedly occurred on August 12 when the victim arrived in Dehradun from Delhi in an Uttarakhand Roadways bus.

The 16-year-old teenage victim hails from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh.

Dehradun’s SSP Ajay Singh told the outlet, “On August 13, child helpline 1098 received information that a girl was sitting in a shop and there was also a person there who looked suspicious… 1098 sent its team, questioned the person and took the girl to Bal Niketan for counselling…”

After two to three days of intensive counseling, the underage victim revealed that five people had raped her.

Singh said, “A case has been registered against five unknown persons under Section 70 of the BNS and POCSO Act…”

According to the girl, she was sexually assaulted in the Uttarakhand Roadways bus parked at ISBT around midnight. The medical report is currently awaited.

“The suspected person who was in the shop with her was a bus driver… He confessed the entire incident during interrogation… The conductor was also involved. A total of five people were arrested, three bus drivers, a conductor and a cashier… The forensic team collected the evidence from the bus… The girl’s village has been traced. Her parents are still alive and have been called here…” the officer said.

Chairperson Kusum Kandwal of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women visited Balika Niketan on Sunday morning to enquire about the victim, according to a report in the New Indian Express.

Kusum Kandwal told the outlet, “After obtaining detailed information from the SSP and District Probation Officer, I have ordered immediate action against the perpetrators of this heinous crime. The incident has been treated with utmost seriousness and concern.”
