Buckley: Former butcher’s shop and slaughterhouse could be converted into four apartments

A former butcher’s shop and slaughterhouse in Buckley could be converted into four apartments under new plans.

An application has been submitted to Flintshire Council for permission to redevelop the two sites on Chester Road, close to the town centre.

According to Graham Atkinson’s proposals, a total of four one-bedroom apartments would be created in the vacant buildings.

If approved, this would result in the demolition of numerous buildings on the site, including a disused storage facility.

Other parts of the properties would either be renovated or expanded to create living space.

A design and access statement submitted to the local authority on behalf of Mr Atkinson states: “The applicant wishes to maximise the potential of the Chester Road site to provide high quality housing in Buckley through the conversion of these two existing buildings into residential accommodation.”

“This project includes the reconstruction and renovation of the shop and slaughterhouse buildings.

“(This will include) a first floor extension to the existing single storey shop adjacent to the butcher shop and a two storey link building which will be crucial for access to the first floor.

“The project includes two ground floor apartments, which are expected to have ground-level access, and two apartments on the first floor.”

The statement continues: “Each apartment has a bedroom, a bathroom and an open or semi-open kitchen and living area.

“The two apartments on the ground floor have their own entrance, while the apartments on the first floor will be accessible via a shared entrance hall. This means that the maximum usable space of the existing buildings can be used for living space.”

Access to the site is currently via a gated driveway between the former butcher’s shop and a neighbouring cottage.

The proposals call for this entrance to be closed and a new entrance to be created from Church Road.

According to the plans, a total of six parking spaces will be created, one at the front and five at the rear of the site. In addition, new pedestrian paths will be created.

Comments on the application are currently open via the Council’s website and a decision is expected at a later date.
