Ben Affleck didn’t want to make a big deal out of his birthday, so instead of spending a lot of money on a lavish party, Affleck spent a relaxing day with his kids and had two of his ex-girlfriends visit.

A source close to the family told People that Affleck’s small celebration with his children on August 15 was “exactly what he wanted.”

They said, “He didn’t want to go out to celebrate. The kids had gifts for him, and it was sweet. Jennifer (Lopez) came by to congratulate him.” (And his ex-wife Jennifer Garner was at his house hours earlier!)

“The kids were with Ben most of the day. He didn’t leave the house at all on his birthday,” the source added.

That’s great to hear, considering sources also told Entertainment Tonight earlier this month that Affleck purchased his $20.5 million estate to be closer to his children and “make his family a priority.”

It’s unclear what his kids got him, but this type of celebration shows that he wanted to keep everything out of the public eye and be home with his three children. (We’re sure a day at home was nice compared to having paparazzi constantly following him around; so it makes sense that he didn’t leave home on his birthday!)

For those who don’t know, Garner and Affleck have three children, with Lopez becoming a stepmom. Their children are named Violet, born in December 2005, Seraphina, born on January 15, 2009, and Samuel, born in February 2012.
