Alex Albon admits he is “disappointed” with Williams’ performance so far

After 14 exciting races in the 2024 season, Formula 1 entered its off-season break, with all teams taking a step back to look back at what they have achieved so far this season. Williams did the same with its drivers Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant, releasing a video on its YouTube channel.

Albon said he was not impressed with Williams’ performance so far. “It is fair to say that we are somewhat disappointed with what we expected,” said the Thai-British driver.

Part of me knows that if we had weighed well at the beginning of the year, we would have scored quite a few points,” he added. “I think we were on the defensive, but the car was okay.”

Albon said the team had improved compared to 2023, but mistakes had held them back. His accident in Australia, for example, put chassis development behind. And the car’s excess weight at the start of the season didn’t help either.

Sargeant followed Albon and explained that Williams was hoping for a bigger leap in development, but reiterated that all teams in F1 improve over time, including Williams.

Sargeant will not be able to help Williams return to promotion in 2025 as he will be replaced by Carlos Sainz, but Albon hopes to make great strides under the leadership of James Vowles.

Vowles hopes for a big boost

Williams – one of Formula 1’s most legendary teams – has struggled with performance and financial problems for over a decade. But Vowles now has the money – thanks to an investment from Dorilton Capital – and is improving infrastructure at Grove (the team’s base), so he expects the team to produce better results in the future.

The 2026 rules will redefine the field, giving the British team a good opportunity to make a leap and at least move into the midfield, but their ultimate goal is to become a winning team again.

For this, Vowles has already said, the team would be willing to sacrifice the 2025 season. They have already signed big names, including star driver Sainz, and since they are a Mercedes customer team, the future looks bright.
