Al Hilal won the Saudi Super Cup after beating Al Nassr

What is the story

Al Hilal defeated Al Nassr 4-1 to win the Saudi Super Cup title on August 17.

Cristiano Ronaldo gave Al Nassr the lead with an early goal, but the game took a dramatic turn when Al Hilal scored four times in 17 minutes of the second half.

Ronaldo’s hunt for his first national trophy in Saudi Arabia continues.

Al Hilal have now won their second consecutive Saudi Super Cup title, defeating Al Ittihad in the 2023 final.

Ronaldo’s early lead is overshadowed by an incredible comeback

Ronaldo gave Saudi Pro League runners-up Al Nassr a boost by scoring the first goal against league champions Al Hilal just before half-time.

The 39-year-old striker scored in the 44th minute after a pass from Abdulrahman Ghareeb.

However, his efforts were overshadowed by Al Hilal’s impressive second-half performance with four goals.

Al Hilal’s Serbian duo lead second-half comeback

After the break, the tide turned in Al Hilal’s favour, with Serbian duo Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Aleksandar Mitrovic playing a key role.

Midfielder Milinkovic-Savic scored the first goal ten minutes into the second half following an exchange of blows with Mitrovic.

Eight minutes later, Mitrovic gave Al Hilal the lead by heading in a perfect cross from Ruben Neves.

Mitrovic and Malcom seal the victory for Al Hilal

Mitrovic extended Al Hilal’s lead in the 69th minute by firing the ball straight into the net after a through ball.

Three minutes later, Malcom took advantage of a mistake by Al Nassr goalkeeper Bento and scored the fourth goal for Al Hilal.

Al Halal’s wild attack surprised Al Nassr, which capitalized on Ronaldo’s early goal.

Al Hilal continues to dominate Al Nassr

This victory further cements Al Hilal’s dominance in the competition. They now have three titles more than Al Nassr.

For Ronaldo and his team, the defeat is a repeat of the scenario after they lost to Al Hilal in the Saudi King’s Cup and the Saudi Pro League last season.

The upcoming Saudi Pro League season begins on Thursday with Al Nassr hosting Al Raed.
