Minor girl from Punjab raped in parked bus at ISBT bus stand in Dehradun

DEHRADUN: Within a month, Uttarakhand has seen another shocking incident of brutal violence amid ongoing student protests against the murder and rape of a nurse in Rudrapur.

A minor girl from Moradabad was allegedly gang-raped in a parked bus at ISBT in Dehradun, highlighting the alarming rise in violent crimes in the state.

A disturbing case of gang rape has come to light at the ISBT bus station in Dehradun. A youth from Punjab was allegedly attacked in a parked bus. The Child Protection Committee team rescued the minor from the bus station and brought the incident to light. After deliberation, the committee lodged a complaint at the ISBT police station on Saturday, following which the police quickly moved to investigate the case.

According to police sources, a 16-year-old girl from Moradabad was found disoriented and scared at the ISBT bus stand in Dehradun on the evening of August 13. Initially, the youth was silent, but during the counselling session, she revealed that she had been a victim of gang rape in a bus. The girl had travelled from Punjab to Delhi and then to Moradabad before reaching Dehradun. The counselling session brought the shocking incident to light and prompted police intervention.

Chairperson Kusum Kandwal of the Uttarakhand State Women’s Commission visited Balika Niketan on Sunday morning to personally enquire about the 16-year-old girl who was allegedly gang-raped on Saturday night.

In conversation with the TNIEKusum Kandwal said, “After obtaining detailed information from the SSP and District Probation Officer, I have ordered immediate action against the perpetrators of this heinous crime. The incident has been treated with utmost seriousness and concern.”

Hemant Khanduri, PRO of SSP, told this newspaper, “During police interrogation, the origin of the minor girl was traced to Moradabad and five ISBT bus drivers were taken into custody for questioning in connection with the gang rape.” Currently, the police are studying CCTV footage from the ISBT bus stand to collect more evidence. Inspector KK Lunthi of Patelnagar police station said that charges have been filed against unknown accused in connection with the gang rape of a 16-year-old girl. The police have launched an investigation into the matter.
