Match No. 15: Japan vs. China – Match Report

Two undefeated teams in the tournament will meet in the final game of the opening round to determine the seedings for the trip to Dallas, USA, for the final of the 2025 WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup. Both teams will send their aces to the mound: Yuyan Duan (3-0, 0.31 ERA), making her fifth start for China, and Momoko Chinomi (1-0, 0 ERA), making her fourth start in the tournament.

In the first inning, Kana Watanabe singled first and Aisa Noda scored the game’s first run with one out before Yumeka Kagen doubled the lead with a single to make it 2-0 in the first inning.

In the second inning, Japan continued to exploit China’s defensive errors, scoring two runs on a throwing error by Duan and adding another run on a fielding error, increasing Japan’s lead to five runs after two innings.

In the fourth inning, Japan’s offense went all out, forcing China to use its relievers after starter Duan allowed ten runs (six earned) on eight hits. However, Japan scored 16 runs in the fourth inning alone, prompting China to bring its starter Duan back into the game to finally put an end to Japan’s offense.

China managed to score two runs in the fourth inning and ended the game with a score of 21-2. This left China unstoppable and they finished the tournament with a score of 4-1. Undefeated Japan closed Group B with a score of 5-0, meaning that both Japan and China can advance to the finals of the 2025 WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup.
