Suspect dies in police-involved shooting after SWAT standoff

Albuquerque –

Today, Albuquerque Police attempted to arrest an armed suspect who barricaded himself inside a residence in the 400 block of Arno St SE. Police reports say at least one shot was fired during a foot chase before the suspect entered the residence.

During this SWAT team standoff, we received numerous tips of police activity and roadblocks near Lead and Walter, Broadway and Lead, Coal and Broadway, Lomas and Broadway, and Silver and Lomas.

As we previously reported, the standoff ended shortly before 6:40 p.m. According to an email from APD, “After extensive attempts at negotiation, the standoff ended in a shootout involving officers. The suspect succumbed to his injuries.”

Chief Harold Medina of the APD will provide an update within the hour. Our reporter on the scene will keep you updated.

The APD has not confirmed whether any officers were injured in the ordeal.
