CHEER Boot Scoots on Monday evening

“Oh, heel, toe, do it already, come on baby, let’s go bootscootin’” – Brooks & Dunn.

On Monday nights at Georgetown’s CHEER Center, hear the click of heels and the glide of soles as dancers do the splits and enjoy the camaraderie of line dancing to the sounds of line dance instructor Lily Parsons of Buckles & Boots.

“The class focuses on teaching basic steps and routines to those who are new to line dancing or want to improve or refresh their skills,” said Parsons. “Each participant will learn simple dance patterns and terminology and gradually progress to more complex sequences, all in a fun and social atmosphere.”

Parsons begins every Monday with a 15-minute beginner’s class from 5:15-5:30 p.m., where even the more experienced dancers join in to reinforce the basic moves. After that, all levels are welcome to grind, brush and dance until 7:30 p.m.

The cost to participate is $5. Drinks can be purchased and participants can bring snacks. CHEER is a nonprofit organization and earns its revenue from line dance support programs for seniors.

“I started the program about six months ago and we average 50 dancers a week, and it’s an ongoing program,” said Debra Dodd, CHEER’s Director of Hospitality and Events. “One of my goals when I took the job as Director of Events was to bring arts and entertainment to the CHEER Community Center, and I thought dancing would be a perfect way to start. I’ve been doing line dancing for years and wanted to offer the community something for mind and body health as well. This is a great form of exercise, is positive and uplifting, and we’ve built friendships and a great dance family. Our dance instructor, Lily, is very passionate about line dancing and makes sure people understand it and learn how to dance.”

“Lily and Deb (Dodd) have done a great job of bringing this community together with the love of line dancing,” said veteran dancer Jennifer Lexy Lefebvre. “We all look forward to our Monday nights together here at the CHEER Center.”

CHEER is hosting a line dance party on Friday, August 23rd from 6-10pm. Admission is $10 and there will be a cash bar. The party is open to the public.
