Emily finally makes a decision

As the third episode of Emily in Paris Season 4 begins, Emily goes on a run and realizes how many attractive men there are in Paris, now that she’s single for the first time in a long time. But fate seems to have its own plans and brings both Gabriel and Alfie back into Emily’s orbit in unexpected ways.

Warning: Emily in Paris Warning, spoilers for season 4, episode 3!

First, after a case of mistaken identity, Emily accidentally pours out her frustration to Gabriel over Gabriel letting his ex and her friend stay with him, and her realization of how many hot men there are in Paris now that she’s not dating anyone. Before Emily returned from her jog, Gabriel had asked Mindy if he could use her shower, and he was in said shower when Emily poured out her feelings, thinking it was Mindy getting ready.

Later, Emily meets Alfie at a business meeting with Antoine about the launch of Heartbreak, his new fragrance. When Emily presents plans for a masquerade ball, Alfie interjects and asks what the connection is between heartbreak and a masquerade ball, to which Emily replies that a masquerade ball allows people to be someone else, like someone who isn’t heartbroken.

After the meeting, Camille meets Alfie and apologizes for breaking him and Emily up with her wedding speech. Alfie says he knows they still have feelings for each other and he won’t stand in their way, to which Camille tells him that Emily and Gabriel had a chance to meet for a while but didn’t, basically suggesting that maybe Alfie has nothing to fear after all.

As Emily heads to the Heartbreak Ball, she runs into Gabriel, who also asks about the topic. Emily explains to him how you can hide with a mask and be someone simple. Gabriel tells her that his feelings haven’t changed, and she tells him that it only works if they are two different people as she leaves.

As Emily heads to the ball, she bumps into Antoine’s assistant, who is wearing the exact same outfit, and we know right away that this will lead to trouble later in the episode. It’s just a question of how.

Alfie shows up and apologizes for what he said to Emily about the ball during their meeting earlier in the day. He then asks her to the dance, after which he tells her that he heard she isn’t dating Gabriel and apologizes for his behavior, confesses his feelings about Gabriel being an obstacle in the way, and says how heartbroken he was over everything as they dance.

Before she can fully process Alfie’s comments, Sylvie sends her off to find Antoine and help him with things. That’s when Emily runs into Gabriel. Only Gabriel has taken Emily’s earlier comments about us being different people to heart and introduces himself as David. She also has some fun with it before she has to turn herself in. That’s when she runs into Mindy and tells her all about how Alfie and Gabriel showed up and confessed their feelings.

Mindy tells Emily it’s time to make a decision, and she seems to do so as she goes off to find the two of them. Emily ends up in Gabriel’s arms and dances off with him. Meanwhile, Alfie runs into Antoine’s assistant, who he kisses passionately while telling her he should never have left her, before realizing he’s not talking to Emily… because Emily is running off with Gabriel.

It seems that Emily has finally made her decision and chosen Gabriel, at least for now.

At the beginning of the episode, we see that the author who is writing the story about Nicolas’ father is still trying to get in touch with Sylvie, but she keeps avoiding her calls. It’s clear that she doesn’t know what to do, and things get more and more complicated as she can’t accept Louis funding Laurent’s new club.

At a meeting with Laurent, Sylvie makes it clear to him that she doesn’t trust Louis and that his decision to invest in the club is essentially a way of buying her silence. This is the moment when she finally tells Laurent that she was approached about the story, suggesting that without her, they probably wouldn’t have a story.

After thinking things over, Sylvie decides to take a stand and speaks to the reporter, leading to a revelation that exposes Louis and his actions. She then makes her rounds, first thanking Mindy for telling Emily about the branded cabinet and that it reminded her that men need to be held accountable for their actions. She then reminds Julien that the door is open for his return and that JVMA may not be the best place for him as she shares the article. She receives a supportive message from Antoine and then sends Laurent a message asking him to forgive her for the article and the potential consequences for his club.

Sylvie’s attitude causes some trouble for Mindy in Paradise, as Nicolas is understandably angry about the article. He hits back, calling it all a lie, and Mindy comes clean and confesses the things she has heard about his father.

She assures Nicolas that while she knows her father loves her, that hasn’t stopped him from breaking her heart many times over the years. It’s clear that Nicolas is struggling with things, and he makes it clear that he wants nothing more than for Mindy to be by his side while he works things out, which she’s happy to do as long as he’s on the right side.

Elsewhere in the episode, Marianne overhears Gabriel thanking Luc for bringing her to the restaurant to help him get a Michelin star, telling him that if it got out, it could jeopardize his star. The two later reconcile when Luc asks her to move in with him, and she tips Gabriel off on hiring a top pastry chef to help him in his efforts to get a Michelin star.
