49ers “aren’t that far apart” on huge contract with Brandon Aiyuk

Can the San Francisco 49ers actually keep their superstar receiver Brandon Aiyuk?

Contract negotiations with Aiyuk have been a rollercoaster, to say the least. At one point, a deal seemed close. Then it sounded like he would be traded before the National Football League Draft. Soon after, a deal with the 49ers seemed imminent again, but talks fell through, leading to more transfer speculation.

At this point, he is still a member of the 49ers and the Pittsburgh Steelers are the most likely destination for a trade. But things seem to have taken a turn and according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the 49ers and Aiyuk are now “not that far apart” in terms of a new contract.

“From The Insiders on NFL Network: The #49ers and Brandon Aiyuk aren’t that far apart on a deal, which is why they haven’t finalized a trade to the Steelers and why Aiyuk is still hoping they can clear one final hurdle in negotiations,” Garafolo said.

The fact that Aiyuk could potentially stay in San Francisco should come as a welcome surprise to 49ers fans. He has developed into one of the best receivers in football and could help the 49ers break through and compete for the Super Bowl in 2024.

A deal would certainly cost a lot, with Aiyuk reportedly seeking a deal close to $30 million per year, but it’s worth it. San Francisco should do whatever it takes to get the deal across the finish line.
