Fire chief of Newark, Missouri, dies unexpectedly
KNOX COUNTY, Missouri (WGEM) – The Newark, Missouri Rural Fire Department announced the death of Fire Chief Scott York on Saturday.
The department’s Facebook post said York died unexpectedly on Thursday.
The Facebook post said:
“Scott York, Fire Chief of the Rural Fire Department in Newark, MO, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 15. There will be no public memorial service or wake.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Scott’s family – his wife and department press secretary Carol, as well as his children and former department firefighters Marissa and Shelby. The family is going through a lot and is grateful for the love, prayers and thoughts you have for them. They are grateful for your respect of their privacy during this time and for your continued support of the department.
Newark Rural Fire is grateful to Chief York for his years of dedication and service to the department, our mutual aid partners, the Region B Chiefs Association, and Region B emergency services in general.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol police report, York was arrested Wednesday on charges of being a sex offender and physically staying within 500 feet of a park with a playground.
