Doctor Who episode with Huw Edwards removed from BBC iPlayer

Fans of Doctor Who have noticed that an episode of the long-running sci-fi series has been removed from one of the UK’s leading streaming services, BBC iPlayer.

The missing episode, “Fear Her,” is about former BBC newsreader Huw Edwards, who recently pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children.

The Doctor Who episode is from the second season, David Tennant’s first season as the Tenth Doctor.

Edwards plays himself in a cameo role in the episode and can be heard providing his voice as the news deliverer.

However, “Doctor Who” is not the only series affected by the changes to iPlayer.

Two episodes of “The Great British Menu,” in which Edwards also appeared, were also removed from the streaming service.

The dessert finals of the 2022 and 2023 cooking show have been cancelled.

In the meantime, all other episodes of Doctor Who and The Great British Menu remain available.

A BBC spokesman said Digital Spy: “As you would expect, we actively review the availability of our archive. While we do not routinely delete content from the BBC Archive as it is a historical record, we consider the continued use and reuse of material on a case-by-case basis.”

This came just days after Edwards pleaded guilty to three counts of possession of indecent images of children.

He appeared in court on Wednesday (July 31) after being charged with offences alleged to have taken place between December 2020 and April 2022.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the three charges are based on 41 images shared in a WhatsApp chat. Seven of these images are said to be in Category A – the most serious category of indecent images.

Edwards, a former presenter of the Ten O’Clock News, resigned in April after 40 years at the BBC.

Following Edwards’ guilty plea, a BBC spokesman said: “The BBC is shocked by the details that have emerged in court today.”

“There can be no place for such abhorrent behaviour and our thoughts are with all those affected.”
