A new era in Colby football begins

COLBY, Wis. (WSAW) – The Colby Hornets are ushering in a new era of football, and new head coach Logan Rosemeyer hopes to continue that culture of success after winning a state title just three years ago.

Rosemeyer has been the Hornets’ defensive coordinator for the past four seasons. He says football is in his blood and coaching is something he’s always wanted to do.

The Hornets finished third in the conference last season with a record of 8-3. Now, as we count down the days until kickoff this year, Rosemeyer is confident about his first-year team.

“We have a good group of seniors that have been pretty good at moving us along. A lot of them played last year, so they’re already used to what it’s like on the varsity team. We have some juniors that are stepping in and will be starting freshmen, so the seniors have shown them the way,” Rosemeyer said.

The Hornets have nine seniors this season, led by star running back and defensive end Gavin Voss.

Rosemeyer will make his debut as head coach of the Hornets on August 23 against Stanley Boyd.

The Hornets have a plethora of seniors this season, and any willing to lead some of these younger players are pushing for them to make the team as first-year starters, according to coaches.

One of those seniors is star running back and defensive end Gavin Voss, who says he’s excited about what awaits him in his final season with the Hornets.

Coach Rosemeyer is no stranger to Voss.

Voss really wants to work on his playing style.

“Coach Rosemeyer is changing a lot of things. I mean, I think it’s better this way. We have a lot of new cadences and stuff. And he’s introducing a lot of new, almost tricky things,” Voss said.

Voss rushed for over 14,000 yards with the Hornets last season. He was also one of our own NewsChannel 7 All Stars.
