Netflix has added “My Son,” a mystery thriller starring James McAvoy and Claire Foy, to its schedule.

In the 2021 film, McAvoy plays a guilt-ridden, absent father who travels to his ex-wife’s (Foy) town to investigate his son’s disappearance.

The Christian Carion-directed thriller has now been added to the Netflix lineup, meaning British audiences can now see this stylistically daring film.

When My Son was released, it was revealed that McAvoy was given only the outline of the story, but no dialogue or script, so the actor had to improvise his part while creating the character.

“James will do the real-time detective work on camera to bring real suspense to this thriller,” said producer Adam Fogelson. “We love supporting bold and innovative stories like My Son, and Claire couldn’t be a more spectacular or thrilling choice for this film that is sure to delight audiences.”

While fans can now look forward to one of McAvoy’s more interesting roles, the star previously revealed that he would likely not return to his role as Charles Xavier/Professor X from the X-Men franchise. The actor admitted that there were some teething issues in the films.

“My biggest criticism of what we did in the four films was that after the first film, we stopped exploiting the relationship between Xavier and Magento,” he said. “That was really the backbone of the first film (First Class), so it was like we just threw away this huge weapon.”

Although he had some gripes about the plot, McAvoy revealed that his experience with the superhero genre was positive overall. He recalled, “It was one of the most positive experiences I’ve had with a studio. I don’t really see it as a money-making venture. ‘Days of Future Past’ is one of the better films I’ve been a part of.”

“My Son” is now streaming on Netflix.
