Defective floor mats can be the cause of unintended acceleration in the Buick Envision – Autoua.net
The Hope Valley Industries floor mats are all-weather mats. They have not been modified to accommodate the new design of the carpet on the driver’s side. Buick estimates that about 5% of cars may have this problem, meaning that about 2,450 vehicles could be affected.
Dealers inspect the floor mats in these cars. If they find a problem, they either remove the mat or modify it so it doesn’t interfere with the accelerator pedal. This may mean cutting off part of the mat. Buick will refund customers the original price of the mat.
Buick Envision (model year 2024)
So far, Buick has received nine complaints about the problem. Fortunately, no one was injured and no accidents occurred. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the accelerator pedal can get trapped under the floor mat, causing the car to accelerate on its own.
The GM recall number is N242466850.
This problem is reminiscent of a similar problem nearly 20 years ago. Back then, Toyota had to recall nearly four million vehicles because their floor mats caused the accelerator pedal to get stuck. That situation turned out to be much more serious and resulted in an accident in which four people died.
