World Wide Technology Raceway will host the first NASCAR Cup Series playoff race in September 2025
MADISON, Ill. (First Alert 4) – World Wide Technology Raceway will host its first-ever NASCAR Cup Series Playoff race after rescheduling race dates for the 2025 calendar.
According to a press release, WWT Raceway will host the Enjoy Illinois 300 after it was moved from its traditional June date to Sunday, September 7, 2025, as the second race of the ten-event Cup Series Playoffs.
The Enjoy Illinois 300, next season’s only Cup event on a 1.25-mile track, will be a 240-lap, 300-mile race.
“We can’t thank NASCAR enough for rewarding this enormous sports market with a race of this magnitude,” said Curtis Francois, owner and CEO of World Wide Technology Raceway. “The St. Louis region has been accustomed to great playoff events featuring the Blues, Cardinals and other sports teams for years, and now we can finally add NASCAR to that prestigious list. For NASCAR to select us for a coveted Cup Series playoff race is a tribute to all the support, especially from our loyal fans, that they have experienced during our first three years of hosting sold-out races. The continued development of World Wide Technology Raceway would not be possible without the unwavering support and dedication of David Steward and his entire family.”
Last June, WWT Raceway celebrated its third consecutive sold-out Cup Series race. The race drew fans from 48 states and 20 countries. The three races hosted by WWT Raceway have provided plenty of drama. In 2022 and 2023, Joey Logano and Kyle Busch both won by less than 0.7 seconds. Last season, points leader Ryan Blaney ran out of fuel on the final lap and handed the win to his Team Penske teammate Austin Cindric.
“We are thrilled to expand our partnership with World Wide Technology Raceway as the title sponsor of the Enjoy Illinois 300 NASCAR Cup Series race for the fourth consecutive year,” said Daniel Thomas, deputy director of the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Office of Tourism. “This event has become a major platform for Illinois tourism, attracting thousands of NASCAR fans from more than 20 countries and 48 states and generating $60 million in economic impact in the Illinois Metro-East region. Now that it is a playoff race, we expect the Enjoy Illinois 300 to attract even more visitors looking to discover Southern Illinois’ small businesses, outdoor adventures and iconic attractions.”
The Enjoy Illinois 300 race start time and full weekend schedule will be announced at a later date.
World Wide Technology Raceway announces that deposits and extensions for NASCAR weekend packages are now available at its ticket counter.
