Cardinals sign former Lions pass rusher Julian Okawara to add to 2024 first practice squad
The Cardinals have a new edge rusher at their disposal at the start of the regular season.
The team on Wednesday added outside linebacker Julian Okwara to this season’s first roster, which includes 14 other players released by the team on Tuesday. Okwara, once a third-round pick of the Lions, recorded nine sacks in 38 games over four seasons with Detroit. After the Lions let him go as a free agent, the Eagles signed the veteran before he was released earlier this week.
All practice squad players – including running back Michael Carter, linebacker Krys Barnes and quarterback Desmond Ridder – participated in Wednesday’s practice.
The Cardinals receive a waiver for international player Bernhard Seikovits, so while they currently have 15 players on the practice squad, they still have room to add two more.
Seikovits has been an exception to the PS throughout his career, but this year the rules were changed to allow him to be included in a game like any other practice squad player if the Cardinals so choose.
The Cardinals also brought back the only two rookies in the draft who did not make the 53-man roster: cornerback Jaden Davis and wide receiver Tejhaun Palmer.
