Corvette owners join the caravan in Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky (WBKO) – Thousands of Corvettes are coming from near and far to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the National Corvette Museum.
You could see the sports cars in different colors and designs coming from I-65 onto Corvette Road.
“There’s nothing better than riding in a herd of Corvettes,” said National Corvette Museum Ambassador Bob Mallory.
Over the past week, cars from all over the United States and even from abroad have joined the caravans. The largest caravan arrived at the National Corvette Museum this afternoon.
“This is my second time. In 2019 we have a smaller group from Ontario, Canada,” said Carl Kuhne, a participant in the Ontario Caravan. “This is a great opportunity to drive a few miles because I believe a car is only as good as how much you drive it. My car is a 1998 model and has over 270,000 kilometers on the clock.”
The event featured booths, vendors, food trucks, and even a Corvette for attendees to display their names and where they were from.
“It’s an honor when someone signs your car. But it’s also a memory for them,” said Corvette owner Clair Steiner. “That’s what the caravan is all about: camaraderie … talking about the car and enjoying the ride.”
Steiner says after he gets the signatures, he takes photos of everyone to put together in a collage to preserve the memory.
Many admire these supercars and feel a sense of belonging to the Corvette culture.
“At first I came here just for the camaraderie in the Corvette, but now we have friends and family here in Bowling Green, Kentucky that we consider family,” Mallory said.
Today was the first day of the 30th anniversary celebrations.
