Swansea City vs Wycombe Wanderers: League Cup – BBC Sport
Wycombe Wanderers caused a surprise in the EFL Cup in League One when they knocked out Championship side Swansea City thanks to a winner from Richard Kone.
After a passing game with Matt Butcher, Kone put Wycombe ahead in the 40th minute, firing the ball into the roof of the net when Swansea’s defence was wide open.
The Chairboys deserved their surprise victory, as a determined defense left the Welsh club with few chances despite having better possession.
Swansea did not have a single shot on goal: Florian Bianchini headed wide, and attempts by Joe Allen and Jay Fulton were also blocked.
The hosts can hardly complain about losing to a team currently in the bottom half of League One.
Swansea made eight changes from Sunday’s 1-1 draw with rivals Cardiff and a lack of cohesion was evident throughout.
The hosts appeared toothless in attack, while Wycombe were already dangerous through Kieran Sadlier and Josh Scowen before Kone’s confident strike gave the visitors a deserved lead five minutes before half-time.
Swansea head coach Luke Williams attempted to breathe new life into his team with a triple substitution just before the hour mark, but despite almost 75% possession, the hosts failed to manage a single shot on goal.
