COMMERCE CITY, Colorado — The Colorado Rapids will begin the 2025 season in the Concacaf Champions Cup. The club secured its place in the prestigious regional tournament by finishing third in the 2024 Leagues Cup.

Colorado’s run in the Leagues Cup ended on Sunday with a comeback shootout victory over Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park. Goals from Homegrown midfielder Oliver Larraz and winger Calvin Harris, aided by another heroic performance from Zack Steffen, helped the club to a 3-1 shootout victory following a 2-2 draw in regulation time. With the win, the club secured its first Concacaf Champions Cup berth since the 2022 season and its fifth overall.

The Rapids’ history in the Concacaf tournament dates back to 1998, when the club was one of only two MLS teams to qualify, along with DC United. Colorado was eliminated by Liga MX’s Club León in the qualifying playoff round that year.

Following Colorado’s victory in the 2010 MLS Cup, the Rapids advanced to the group stage of the 2011–12 Concacaf Champions League, where they faced AD Isidro Metapán of El Salvador, Santos Laguna of Mexico and Real España of Honduras. Colorado finished third in the group, while Santos and Metapán advanced to the quarterfinals.

The Rapids qualified for the 2017–18 tournament as runners-up in the 2016 MLS Supporters’ Shield and reached the round of 16, where they lost 2-0 to Toronto FC.

In their most recent Concacaf appearance following the 2021 season, the Rapids again reached the round of 16, where they lost on penalties to Guatemalan side Comunicaciones.

In this year’s Leagues Cup, the Rapids made history as the first MLS team with four consecutive wins against Liga MX teams, including a penalty shootout victory over Club América (9-8) in the quarterfinals and a 2-1 win over Deportivo Toluca FC in the round of 16.

The 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup will feature 27 clubs from North America, Central America and the Caribbean. The 60^th The 2025 edition of the tournament will be played between February and June 2025. The Rapids will enter the tournament in the first round and will learn their opponents for the home and away matches later this year.
