Former Bears will appear at prestigious event for the second time
BERKELEY – California golf alumni Collin Morikawa and Byeong Hun An will participate in the 2024 Presidents Cup, having automatically qualified for the U.S. team and international team, respectively, following the conclusion of the BMW Championship on Sunday. The Presidents Cup will be played Sept. 24-29 at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Canada.
Both Golden Bears are competing in the Presidents Cup for the second time. Morikawa debuted for the U.S. team in 2022, posting a 2-1-0 record, while An debuted for the international team in 2019, posting a 1-2-2 record. The event will add to Morikawa and An’s busy 2024 schedule, as the duo competed at the Paris Olympics earlier this month, placing 24th.
An, the No. 6 qualifier for the international team, has five top-10 finishes in 2024, including a T2 at the Sony Open. Morikawa secured the U.S. team’s No. 3 automatic qualifier after posting seven top-10 finishes this season, including a second-place finish, his best of the season, at the Memorial Tournament, as well as top-three and top-four finishes at the Masters Tournament and the PGA Championship.
Morikawa and An enter this week’s TOUR Championship ranked seventh and 16th in the FedEx Cup standings.
Max Homa, also a former Cal golfer and PGA Tour standout, has a chance to join Morikawa and An in the event when U.S. team captain Jim Furyk announces his selections on Sept. 3 to complete the 12-man team.
