The best thriller films of 2024
Fans of suspenseful feature films know that there is often nothing better than watching a thrilling story unfold in a darkened cinema (or living room). Luckily for us, the 2024 film list includes several can’t-miss thrillers, from the highly anticipated A quiet place Spin-offs, several original stories from Sundance and gripping psychological thrillers starring superstars like Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Nicole Kidman. ‘My mistake’

Netflix and Tyler Perry’s steamy legal thriller follows criminal defense attorney Mea Harper (Rowland) as she takes on a murder case against an artist (Rhodes) accused of killing his girlfriend. As she tries to find out if her client is as innocent as he claims, Mea is thrust into a world that is as steamy as it is dangerous.

‘Love lies bleeding’

In this highly anticipated romantic thriller, reclusive gym manager Lou (Stewart) falls in love with ambitious bodybuilder Jackie (O’Brian). “Their love soon turns to violence as they become drawn deep into the web of Lou’s crime family,” the film’s description reads.

‘Ape Man’

With: Dev Patel, Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sikandar Kher, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte and Makarand Deshpande.
Patel directs and stars in this action thriller inspired by Hanuman, the Hindu god of wisdom, strength and courage. The film follows “The Kid,” an anonymous warrior who has spent his life seeking revenge on the corrupt officials who killed his mother and destroyed his home.

‘Civil War’

With: Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sonoya Mizuno, Jesse Plemons and Nick Offerman.
This shocking film from destruction Director Alex Garland depicts a fictional near-future America in the midst of an armed civil war (because that’s exactly what our collective fear needs right now). In the film, Dunst plays a photojournalist documenting atrocities as a massive Fourth of July invasion unfolds in Washington, DC.

“A quiet place: day one”

With: Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou and Denis O’Hare.
This spin-off of the suspenseful hit series takes viewers back to the early days of the alien invasion, but leaves the Abbott family (played by John Krasinski and Emily Blunt) behind and instead follows a new woman (Nyong’o’) as she experiences her terrifying first moments in the city that never sleeps (or rests), New York.

‘Twisters’

With: Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Daryl McCormack and Maura Tierney.
The action thriller from 1996 Twisters (starring Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton and Cary Elwes as storm chasers chasing the strongest tornado in decades) is the latest ’90s classic to be resurrected in the 2020s. Plot details of the new film are still under wraps, but it has been described as a “new chapter” of the original.

“Mother instinct”

Now come the jokes about the “literal mom-out thing”: Oscar winners Chastain and Hathaway play best friends raising sons of the same age in 1960s suburbia in this tense psychological thriller. According to the film’s description, the couple’s familial ties are gradually eroded by guilt and paranoia after their lives are “rocked by a tragic accident involving one of their children,” and a gripping battle of wills unfolds that reveals the darker side of motherly love.

‘Catch’

In M. Night Shyamalan’s latest film, Hartnett plays Cooper, a mild-mannered father who takes his teenage daughter to see her favorite pop star, Lady Raven (played by the director’s daughter, Saleka Night Shyamalan). Once there, Cooper discovers that the whole concert is actually a trap to catch a notorious serial killer known as the “Butcher.” One problem: The Butcher is Cooper.

“The substance”

In this gruesome body horror thriller, Moore plays Elisabeth Sparkle, a washed-up star nearing the end of her career who finds herself drawn to the mysterious titular drug that splits her into her current body and a beautiful twenty-something double named Sue. The film’s description states: “The only rule? Time must be divided: exactly one week in one body, then one week in the other. No exceptions. A perfect balance. What could go wrong?”

“Another man”
