Shania Twain dances with Don Johnson in the teaser for “Doctor Odyssey” | Video
It wouldn’t be Ryan Murphy without a slew of great guest stars, and ABC’s upcoming Doctor Odyssey has a great one. Country music legend Shania Twain will guest star in the drama, which premieres September 26.
Twain even appears briefly in the drama’s first teaser. “Doctor, welcome aboard the ‘Odyssey,'” says Captain Robert Massey (Don Johnson) in the two-minute clip. “This ship is heaven. Our mission is to preserve the dream, and that’s why you’re here.”
“I’m in,” says Dr. Max Bankman (Joshua Jackson) in response.
As they have this exchange, “Wouldn’t it be nice” by the Beach Boys plays in the background while a heart rate monitor can be heard increasing in speed. When the heart rate monitor reaches its highest speed, the drama escalates.
In quick succession, the teaser shows Dr. Bankman performing CPR, someone falling off the ship’s railing, Twain twirling around on the dance floor in a sequined dress, and a dangerous storm throwing the crew through the air. You can watch the full teaser below.
Little is known about Twain’s role at this time, but it seems that she will play a wealthy guest on the luxury liner.” Developed in the same style as “9-1-1,” “Doctor Odyssey” is a highly dramatic disaster film set on the deck of a luxury cruise ship.
Twain’s previous acting credits include the 2019 John Travolta feature film “Trading Paint,” the 2020 Christian drama “I Still Believe,” and the role of Mrs. Potts in the 2022 ABC live production of “Beauty and the Beast: 30th Anniversary Celebration.”
Ryan Murphy is executive producing the series via Ryan Murphy Television. Eric Paquette, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson and Nissa Diederich also serve as EPs. Paris Barclay directs and executive produces. The studio is 20th Television.
“Doctor Odyssey” premieres on ABC on September 26, then streams on Hulu.
