Florida teenagers, a girl and a boy, charged with murder in Pierson shooting
The 17-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy lured a 17-year-old to Pierson to rob him, but when he tried to escape, they shot him multiple times, killing him, prosecutors said.
A 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy were charged with first-degree murder in the death of another juvenile they lured to Pierson to rob, prosecutors said.
A Volusia County grand jury on Monday indicted 17-year-old Tania Lopez-Morales and 15-year-old Martin Martinez on charges of first-degree murder and robbery with a firearm.
The identity of the slain teenager could not be determined by the district attorney’s office, but the Volusia Sheriff’s Office had previously identified him as Odie Carbajal, 17, of Crescent City.
Lopez-Morales and Martinez were accused of luring Carbajal to Pierson on August 7 to rob him. They arrived armed when Carbajal arrived, according to prosecutors. Lopez-Morales and Martinez then shot Carbajal multiple times, according to prosecutors.
Carbajal died at the scene of the accident.
In another case, Justin Brown was charged with first-degree murder by illegal distribution of a controlled substance. Brown was accused of selling fentanyl and cocaine to a man in October 2023 who later died of an overdose, prosecutors said.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office investigated both cases.
