Newport Mansions expands “The Gilded Age,” tours of the third floor of The Breakers
NEWPORT, R.I. (WJAR) — The Preservation Society of Newport County has announced that it is extending the hours for two of its most popular tours of Newport’s mansions.
Starting September 3, visitors will also have the opportunity to take part in the Inside the “Gilded Age” tour and The Breakers Third Floor Preservation in Progress tour.
According to official information, the Gilded Age tour will be offered every Tuesday and Friday from September 3rd to 26th.
This tour takes visitors through four villas while guides explain which scenes were filmed in which rooms and tell the stories of the people who actually lived in those villas, officials with the heritage society said.
According to officials, tickets must be purchased in advance on the Newport Mansions website.
The Breaker’s third floor tour will be offered twice daily at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. from September 3 to October 14.
The third floor of the historic mansion was opened to the public for the first time this June.
According to the Preservation Society of Newport County, the guided tour gives visitors a glimpse into the private rooms used by the Vanderbilt family.
Officials said starting October 15, the tours would be offered once a day at 1:30 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased in advance on the Newport Mansions website.
