Omaha Open Door Mission distributes food and water in high temperatures

OMAHA, Nebraska (WOWT) – The Omaha Open Door Mission said it will send teams out to help distribute food and water despite high temperatures Monday, it said in a statement.

The Open Door Mission will distribute cold water bottles and lunch boxes to the homeless, the statement said.

“With the extreme hot temperatures, lives are at risk,” said Steve Frazee, Chief Impact Officer at Open Door Mission. “With our Water Patrol team out today, we want to provide cold bottled water, but also show God’s love and care for the homeless. Ultimately, we want people to find safe, cool shelter at Open Door Mission.”

The Open Door Mission reception is stocked with water to provide for anyone who comes through their doors, the statement said. However, they do need water donations. Anyone wishing to donate can do so on the Open Door Mission website.

Since Open Door Mission donation centers are closed on Mondays, people can drop off their bottled water donations between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the Open Door Mission Administrative Center at 2828 N 23rd Street or directly at the kitchen in the back of the Garland Thompson Men’s Center at 2705 N 20th Street E. All you have to do is ring the bell when you get there.
