Cheerleading and dance classes at Parks & Rec locations

All American Youth Activities offers weekly cheerleading classes that build self-esteem and confidence.

Hillsborough County Parks & Recreation partners with All American Youth Activities to offer dance and cheerleading classes to young athletes.

While teaching young cheerleaders and dancers new techniques and skills, All American Youth Activities’ goal is to instill self-esteem and confidence through its programs. The classes also promote friendships, physical fitness and encourage young athletes to work with others.

The cheerleading courses teach basic stunts and different jumping styles using choreographed routines and techniques.

“Not only do children learn how to be part of the crowd, how to cheer with the crowd, how to chant and how to work in groups, but they also learn how to be better coordinated, more flexible, work with others and develop more self-esteem,” says the All American Youth Activities website. “Shyness is very often overcome.”

The dance classes offer relaxing hip hop and modern jazz lessons in the style of a “music video”.

“Our dance classes are held in a fun, relaxed and musical atmosphere that helps students prepare for future dance interests,” the website states.

At the end of each season, performers compete in a competition where they perform the routines they learned and practiced at All American Youth Activities. Classes typically consist of 20 to 25 students. Teachers are usually college students who are members of their schools’ dance or cheerleading teams.

The pay-as-you-go concept allows students to try out the classes without any binding contracts. Previous experience in dance or cheerleading is not required or necessary, but students are encouraged to bring a good attitude and lots of energy to each class.

Children ages 5 to 15 can attend after-school evening classes at various locations throughout Hillsborough County for $8 to $10 per week. Dance and cheerleading classes are divided into three different age groups.

All American Youth Activities has nine locations in Hillsborough County, including Brandon Park & Recreation Center, Ruskin Park & Recreation Center, and Gardenville Park & Recreation Center in Gibsonton. These locations offer both cheerleading and dance programs for students.

“Our goal is to continually provide high-quality, youth-focused outreach programs that are affordable for everyone,” the website states.
