Forum “Water and Peace, strong partnership for a successful future” begins
The Association of Municipalities and the Water Directorate of the Canton of Jazera organized the forum “Water and Peace, a strong partnership for a successful future” within the framework of World Water Week, which takes place from 25 to 29 August..
Representatives of relevant democratic institutions and bodies of the autonomous administration, civil society organizations, as well as dozens of activists and academics from northeast Syria will participate in the forum in the Nergiz Hall in Qamishlo..
The forum began with a speech by the Deputy Co-Chairman of the Association of Municipalities in Jazera Canton, Berevan Omar, who welcomed the participants and stressed the importance of the forum as the Northeast Syria region suffers from a number of challenges in the water sector..
And added: “Water problems are one of the most sensitive issues in the world and in northeast Syria, and water sustainability is at great risk. Water is now being used as a weapon of war against the region by capturing the waters of the Euphrates and cutting off the water of the Alok station..”
The forum’s agenda includes numerous presentations on important water-related topics, including:
A lecture entitled “Water Importance and Resources in Jazera Canton” given by the Co-Chairman of the Canton’s Water Director, Berivan Slo.
A lecture entitled “Groundwater in North and East Syria: Reality and Challenges” delivered by Nizar Khalif, Doctor of Geology and Metallurgy – Rojava University.
A lecture entitled “The impact of irrigation methods on groundwater” will be given by Amin Aref, a researcher in the field of modern irrigation techniques..
In addition to a lecture entitled “The relationship of women to water”, given by Zozan Muhammed, lecturer at the Institute of Geneology at the University of Rojava.
