Cole highlights ManU player who ‘cost’ his team in Brighton match as Red Devils ‘want him out’

Joe Cole believes Man Utd are looking to sell Antony this summer after the Brazilian ‘cost’ the Red Devils a 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday.

The Red Devils looked set to come from behind to win on the south coast after Amad Diallo equalised for former United striker Danny Welbeck’s 100th career goal.

But after a bizarre, disallowed goal Manchester United Substitutes Joshua Zirkzee and Alejandro Garnacho as well as Seagulls striker Joao Pedro made the guests’ misery even worse by a header in the fifth minute of injury time.

And a substitute was blamed for costing Man United the game, with Chelsea legend Cole insisting Antony failed to win the ball back for his team at the crucial moment.

“Manchester United brought on Antony, who, with all due respect, is probably not happy to play only 10 or 15 minutes,” Cole said on TNT Sports.

“He’s an £80m player, he probably wants to leave United and they probably want to get rid of him too.

“You put him on the field at that crucial moment when the ball is on the line and someone has to be put on the line for the team and the club. He didn’t do it and that cost his team the win.

“That’s the difference. If you look at the way the Brighton substitutes ran, it was fantastic.”

After Diallo’s equaliser, Zirkzee went from hero to loser by preventing Garnacho from turning the game around in the 70th minute.

The summer signing from Bologna, who came on as a substitute for Mount after scoring on his debut in a 1-0 win over Fulham last weekend, touched his team-mate’s shot on the line when he was adjudged to be offside.

The video referee duly intervened and Pedro was then able to head in Simon Adingra’s cross unmarked in the Man United penalty area, giving Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler the win in his first home game in English football.

“Of course we can take back this goal and explain in detail what happened,” said ten Hag about the disallowed goal.

“The most important thing is that we have a numerical advantage and then it’s about making the final pass, having players in the right positions and making the right finish. I think we did everything well there. It’s bad luck.”

On defending Pedro’s winning goal, Ten Hag said: “We have to talk about how we act as a team in this situation.

“There was more than one mistake back then and that had a big impact on the result.

“If you can’t win – and I think we were close to winning this game – then you definitely can’t lose the game.

“Both goals were very easy goals and we should have done better as a team.”
