How to quickly remove limescale from your shower head without vinegar or scrubbing
Limescale is the ugly, crumbly, white buildup on your shower head that can completely impair water flow, cause pressure problems, and even drive up your bills.
Although limescale can be removed with baking soda and white vinegar, it may take some time to see results.
To avoid these terrible problems more quickly, cleaning enthusiast Francesca, founder of “Thoroughly Modern Grandma”, has a golden tip for you that will help you clean your shower head in just a few minutes and with just one item.
Francesca recommends citric acid as a quicker way to keep your shower limescale-free.
She said, “Have you ever noticed how the holes in your shower head get clogged?
“These can be easily cleaned by soaking your shower head in a solution of hot water and citric acid. Leave it for about 10 minutes and then rinse.”
However, keep in mind that you should not resort to harsh commercial cleaners or bleach as they are simply too aggressive and could end up ruining your shower rather than scrubbing it clean.
Citric acid, a natural substance found in citrus fruits such as oranges and lemons, is available in crystal form at hardware stores and can work wonders as a cleaning agent.
Francesca added: “Citric acid is a great addition to your list of natural cleaning ingredients because its low pH makes it very acidic, making it very good at removing things like calcium (limescale), rust and other minerals.”
She further explained: “It is also useful for killing mold and mildew and can be used as a preservative.”
To clean a shower head with citric acid, simply boil water in a kettle. Unscrew the shower head and immerse it in a bowl of boiling water. Add a few spoonfuls of citric acid to the mixture.
Soak the shower head in this effective cleaning solution for 10 minutes or longer if it is particularly dirty.
After soaking, rinse the faucet with cold tap water, dry it, and then reattach it to your shower.
From now on, you have a shower head that is not only sparkling clean, but also free of limescale deposits. So nothing stands in the way of your sparkling clean shower experience.
