AJ Allmendinger returns to Kaulig Racing’s Cup program in 2025
AJ Allmendinger will return to the NASCAR Cup Series full-time in 2025, driving the No. 16 Chevrolet Camaro for Kaulig Racing, the team confirmed in a social media post Thursday.
This season, Allmendinger is driving a Kaulig Racing car in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, where he has competed for the championship in the second-tier series in three of the last four seasons. Owned by Matt Kaulig since 2019, the 42-year-old driver has 17 wins – two Cup Series wins and 15 Xfinity Series wins.
In addition to his full-time campaign in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Allmendinger has also raced a part-time schedule in NASCAR’s top class, competing in ten events in the No. 16 Chevrolet and sharing the grid with several other drivers – Ty Dillon, Derek Kraus, Shane Van Gisbergen and Josh Williams.
During his final full-time season at the top level of NASCAR in 2023, Allmendinger recorded a win at the ROVAL at Charlotte Motor Speedway, along with four top-5 and seven top-10 finishes, to finish the 36-race season 21st in the NASCAR Cup Series point standings.
The Los Gatos, California native has earned Kaulig Racing’s two victories in the NASCAR Cup Series, with the first victory coming on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in 2020 when the organization was still competing part-time in the Cup Series.
After 20 of 33 NASCAR Xfinity Series events, Allmendinger is sixth in the regular season points standings thanks to three top-five and ten top-10 finishes and has a season average of 13.9.
In the NASCAR Cup Series races of the current season, which the 42-year-old driver competed in, Allmendinger finished sixth three times, in races at the Daytona International Speedway, the Circuit of The Americas (COTA) and the Sonoma Raceway.
With his return to the full-time NASCAR Cup Series, Allmendinger occupies one of two spots in NASCAR’s highest class for the organization, which also fields several full-time drivers in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
Further announcements regarding the sponsorship and personnel for Allmendinger’s No. 16 Chevrolet Camaro next season will be made at a later date.
