Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars team up for the single “Die With A Smile”
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars have collaborated on a new single: “Die With A Smile”.
The song and video are set to drop today (August 15) at 9 p.m. Pacific Time, which is 5 a.m. ET on August 16. Representatives for Gaga have confirmed that the song will not appear on her upcoming seventh album.
“Die With My Smile” is the first song Gaga has released since she appeared on the Rolling Stones track “Sweet Sounds Of Heaven” last year, and is Mars’ first release since she released her debut album with Silk Sonic collaborator Anderson .Paak, An Evening With Silk Sonic, in 2021.
Mars hinted at the collaboration yesterday by posting a photo of himself in one of Gaga’s T-shirts.
Gaga performed during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics last month, singing “Mon Truc en Plumes” by Zizi Jeanmaire. It was later revealed that her performance had been recorded and the 300,000 viewers had seen it on a screen, although it appeared to be live to viewers at home.
“We were standing in front of Lady Gaga’s set and when the music started, the stairs were empty,” France 3 Journalist Yannick Le Gall said The TelegraphThey also added that “the audience booed and regretted having paid 180 euros to see nothing.”
Olympic choreographer and dance director Maud Le Pladec later explained why the piece was not performed live, citing the unfortunate weather conditions that day.
“Unfortunately, it was the only (performance) that we had to pre-record for safety reasons in the late afternoon when we knew for sure that it was going to rain – we were informed every minute, we had never followed the weather report so closely in our lives,” she recalls (via diversity).
“We decided it would be too dangerous for the performers, even with a few drops of rain. (Gaga) really wanted to do it, so we preferred to pre-record it rather than cancel it. The floor would have been slippery. She was wearing heels, was very close to the water, there were stairs… We had to be extremely careful.”
It was also reported that the singer stayed on site to watch the performance and later said that she “wanted nothing more than to create a performance that warms the heart of France and celebrates French art and music.”
