He is one of only six players in Presidents Cup history to achieve a 5-0-0 record in a single week.
Weir said: “I am thrilled to announce Shigeki as my fifth assistant captain for the 2024 Presidents Cup. His record at this event speaks for itself, but more importantly, he is a trusted voice in our team room and someone who will inspire these 12 players with his unwavering support and dynamic personality.”
Maruyama won three times during his PGA Tour career, his last victory being at the 2003 Wyndham Championship.

Maruyama won the Japan Golf Tour ten times and represented Japan at the 2002 World Cup of Golf, as a partner of Toshimitsu Izawa to win by two strokes over the US team Phil Mickelson And David Toms.
“Representing the international team in the Presidents Cup both as a player in 1998 and 2000 and later as assistant captain in 2013 was one of the most valuable experiences of my golf career,” said Maruyama.
“I am honored that Captain Weir has given me the opportunity to be part of this special brotherhood again. I am looking forward to a great week in Montreal and to providing an incredible atmosphere for our players and fans.”
