Halle Berry says Pierce Brosnan ‘restored my faith in men’ on the set of ‘Die Another Day’
Halle Berry said Pierce Brosnan “restored her faith in men” when she was on the set of the 2002 James Bond film. Die another day.
The film was Brosnan’s fourth and final 007 film and Berry played a supporting role as national security agent Giacinta “Jinx” Johnson.
In conversation with WiredBerry has shared her consistently positive memories of filming with Brosnan. “He will always be my Bond, always,” she said. “I’m a Pierce Brosnan fan. He restored my faith in men in that film. There couldn’t be a more gentlemanly person than Pierce Brosnan.”
“Bond wasn’t on my bucket list, no, not to be in one, but I’ve always loved the films,” Berry continued. “Having been in one makes me feel like I’m part of film history. These films are iconic. They will be a part of our history forever and I’m really honored to have been part of a film like that, especially with Pierce.”
Berry’s Jinx character was set to get her own spin-off film before MGM Studios withdrew its support in 2020, which the actress described at the time as “very disappointing.” “Nobody was willing to put that much money into a black female action star. They just weren’t sure what it was worth,” she said. “That’s where we were at the time.”
Berry has been in a thoughtful mood about her career in recent weeks, having recently reflected on the legacy of the 2004 Catwoman.
“I loved it. It was panned – the critics said it was crap… and it’s not that bad,” she joked. “What makes me happy is that the kids have now found it on the internet and they like it. It’s very satisfying.”
Referring to Charli XCX, she continued: “Because now they’re saying it’s cool and what the hell was everyone’s problem with it, so I’m like, ‘Now I’m such a brat.'”
When asked if she would ever take on the role of Catwoman again, Halle Berry said, “Maybe if I could direct.”
Recently she was also asked why her portrayal of Storm in the X-Men Franchise did not have a cameo appearance in Deadpool and WolverineShe revealed: “Blake (Lively) asked me once when I ran into her at a Marc Jacobs fashion show and she said, ‘Would you ever play Storm in my husband’s (Ryan Reynolds) movie?’ I said, ‘Yes, if he asked me,’ but he never asked me.”
Berry also recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of her role in The Flintstones“Being a black woman in Bedrock seemed like a small thing, but, you know, The Flintstones was the fabric of our culture,” she said.
“I knew this was a huge step forward for black people, especially black women. Even though it was silly, over the top and cheesy, I knew then how important this small part in this big movie would actually be.”
Berry is currently starring in the spy comedy The Union alongside Mark Wahlberg, now streaming on Netflix.
The new James Bond, meanwhile, has not yet been decided, although it was reported in March that EON Production had offered Aaron Taylor-Johnson the job after he impressed producer Barbara Broccoli during a screen test.
