Barn Dance and Quilt Exhibition on Labor Day Weekend

STRONG CITY, KS – Come to the 19thth annual quilt exhibition on Labor Day weekend at Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve on August 31st2 Septemberandand 3rd. Beautiful patriotic quilts will be the main attraction of this year’s program and will be on display each day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the historic Limestone Barn. If you have a patriotic quilt you would like to display, call the preserve at 620-273-8494 (ext. 270). Quilts are needed by August 28.th and can be dropped off at the preserve’s visitor center between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. For each quilt, please include your name and phone number, the quilt’s design name, the year it was made, and the owner’s name. This information is needed to create each quilt label. It’s not too late to get involved.
On Saturday, August 31st Join us for an old-fashioned barn dance among the beautiful quilts. The dance will be held from 1-3 p.m. in the historic 1882 limestone barn, with Derrick Doty as announcer. Live music will be provided by Bob and Melissa Atchison.
Vote for your favorite patriotic quilt this weekend. Votes will be tallied and the winner announced on Monday, September 2nd.and at 1 p.m. All activities and events are free. Enjoy Labor Day weekend and make a day of it by creating some family memories. Take a hike to see the bison, visit the historic ranch buildings and one-room school, have a picnic, and view the cloth-making masterpieces with different designs, techniques, and colors.
