California has some of the highest residential energy costs in the country: ranking
CALIFORNIA – California has the second-highest annual energy costs in the country for home appliances, according to a recent ranking by Cinch Home Services.
The home warranty experts analyzed data from Energy Star to determine the average energy use in kilowatt hours per year for common household appliances. Cinch Home Services then calculated the total cost of running a washer, dryer, bottom-freezer refrigerator, dishwasher and electric stove in each state using average electricity costs from the Environmental Investigation Agency.
The Golden State came in second on the list, with household appliances costing $534.15 per year, with the average cost of electricity ranking at 34.26 cents per kilowatt hour. Hawaii came in first with annual energy costs of $704.56, and Connecticut came in third at $461.18.
“Determining the energy costs of running common household appliances provides valuable insight into household spending and may inspire you to control your consumption to save on bills,” a Cinch Home Services spokesperson said in a press release about the results.
“In all 50 states, the dryer is the most expensive household appliance to operate. It costs U.S. households an average of $107.91 per year. The cheapest is the washing machine at just $17.61.”
