British tourist dies after falling from sixth floor of Ibiza hotel
A teenage British tourist has died after falling from the sixth-floor balcony of her hotel in Ibiza.
The woman was staying at the Hotel Vibra District, an adults-only all-inclusive resort about 300 meters from the beach in San Antonio.
A spokesman for the Guardia Civil in the Balearic Islands told The Telegraph: “A 19-year-old British woman died at 3am on Tuesday morning when she fell from the sixth floor of her hotel in San Antonio, Ibiza. She may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”
Police said they were treating the death as an “accident.” An ambulance was called to the scene, but rescue workers were unable to save the woman’s life after the fall.
This is the second death of a British tourist in the Balearic Islands within four days. On Saturday, a 28-year-old man fell to his death in front of his girlfriend after a night of drinking after tripping over a wall in a four-star hotel in Mallorca.
The unnamed man fell over the wall near the entrance to the adults-only Reverence Mare Hotel in Palmanova, plummeting 4.5 metres and landing next to the hotel’s hot tub.
Following a number of deaths caused by ‘balconing’ and other forms of risky behaviour among British tourists in the Balearic Islands over the years, the British Embassy in Spain has sought to raise awareness of the dangers.
The Embassy and British Consulate in Palma de Mallorca have launched a campaign called ‘Stick with your mates’, urging partying tourists to look out for friends who have consumed excessive amounts of drugs or alcohol.
