“Psychologist” sexually abused a young girl: police
A self-proclaimed “psychologist” befriended a 15-year-old girl only to try to persuade her to have sexual relations with two adult men.
Maria Ximena Duarte, 45, is currently incarcerated in Miami-Dade, Florida. She is charged with child trafficking, lewd and lascivious exposure of a child under 16 while the defendant is over 18, lewd and lascivious battery and obstruction of custody. Records show two men were involved in the alleged abuse. One of them sexually abused the girl, according to Duarte’s arrest affidavit.
The documents list only the men’s first names. Law&Crime is not naming them because they have not been charged, but we have reached out to police about these other adults. A police spokesperson said the investigation is ongoing. The office of the public defender representing Duarte declined to comment.

According to the documents, the girl told police that she walked her dog to the pool area of a hotel on Tuesday, where she met the defendant. Duarte reportedly befriended the teenager and quickly gained her trust by identifying herself as a psychologist. The girl, who felt comfortable with the defendant, confided in her about personal life issues and learned that they had shared life experiences.
But Duarte allegedly offered the girl a marijuana cigarette and some alcoholic beverages. The teenager refused the alcohol but stayed in the hotel room, going home intermittently and not returning until the next day.
On Wednesday, however, Duarte allegedly took photos of her and sent them to a man, saying the girl was 21 and willing to have sex with him.
However, the girl refused, saying in the paraphrase of the affidavit that “she was not like that.” Duarte allegedly ignored her and continued to insist. According to the documents, the defendant had sex with that person in front of the teenager and gave her a phone to record an oral sex act. According to the documents, the defendant performed the act “while telling the victim that she would teach her.”
Duarte’s boyfriend also reportedly arrived at the hotel room and she left, leaving the girl alone in the room with him. Although the girl expressed discomfort, Duarte urged her back into the hotel room and told her to stay and make the man “comfortable,” the documents say.
The girl, who was alone in the room, went into the bathroom and started playing on her cell phone. When she later came out, she found the man with his penis exposed, masturbating and “inviting the victim to have sex with him,” according to the documents.
She refused, but Duarte’s boyfriend grabbed her by the back of her head and neck, the affidavit states. The documents describe an act of sexual assault.
During her time in the room, the girl learned that Duarte was trading sex for drugs “to satisfy her drug addiction,” authorities said.
“The victim heard the defendant tell (the boyfriend) she was 15, can you believe that?” the documents state.
When police later questioned Duarte, they described her as “belligerent and uncooperative” and appeared to be under the influence of unknown drugs.
“Therefore, the investigator concluded that the interview could not be conducted,” the documents state.
