Water Brothers: The Story of Sid Abbruzzia film about surf culture on the East Coast, will be shown at Nantucket Dreamland on Wednesday, August 21st at 7 p.m.

The film has already opened in other markets, but it is playing exclusively at Dreamland on Wednesday and nowhere else at the moment.

The film follows the life of surf and skate legend and cultural icon Sid Abbruzzi and his commitment to protecting the history and culture of the sport.

“Through a mix of never-before-seen archival footage, large-format cinematic footage and personal interviews with cultural greats such as Tony Hawk, Shepard Fairey, Selema Masekela and others, we are taken on a journey through the history of surfing and skating – from 1960s Newport to Santa Cruz, Cocoa Beach, Jeffrey’s Bay in South Africa and beyond,” the filmmakers said in a press release. “As Sid approaches the age of 72, the film captures the final days of his famous Water Brothers Surf & Skate shop, which is slated for demolition, and the impact this has had on the surf and skate community. The documentary emphasizes the importance of memories, personal history and living in the here and now, reminding us to cherish our past and preserve cultural heritage.”

“WATER BROTHER is a poignant reflection on a life lived to the full and a heartfelt tribute to the enduring spirit of surf culture,” they continue. “It celebrates the people and places that make surfing and skating grow beyond mere hobbies and shows how one man’s dedication can inspire an entire community.”
